This is my absolute favorite by Cather, and I don't know why it isn't as well-known as Cather's "My Antonia" and "O Pioneers", or why it hasn't been made into a movie. It's the story of Lucy Gayheart, a young girl from a small mid-western town who moves to Chicago to pursue life as a musician. What happens to Lucy in the big city and how her life is changed forever is a beautifully written and moving story.
