Cold Iron by Melisa Michaels
Review by: Carfiniel
OK, you're already familiar with the hard-boiled detective story, and detective stories that start in San Francisco aren't all that rare. But the San Francisco of Cold Iron is set in a world where elves have left Faerie, and are out to make their mark in the world of the humans. And when elves and humans mix, crazy things are bound to happen.
Rosie Lavine is a P.I. with a serious hatred of all things Christmas. Her partner has just bought the biggest Christmas tree available, so Rosie's already in a bad mood when a teenaged girl shows up in her office, begging for help. She's a groupie of the Elfrock band Cold Iron, and she's afraid someone is trying to kill their lead singer, Jorandel.
Rosie's intrigued, and finally accepts the job, which will involve sex, drug, and rock n'roll, elf-style. She doesn't realize she's getting in over her head, but she's about to find out the hard way!
Melisa Michaels' writing is tight and action-packed, and the story has twists and turns the reader won't see coming. Rosie as narrator is a fun, funny, and ultimately endearing character, and rest assured--you do get to find out why she hates Christmas so much.
