The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle

This book is basically about a unicorn that sets out to find other unicorns, and tells the adventures she has along the way. The characters are wonderfully developed, and the story works on many levels. I absolutely loved this book; partially because I have always loved unicorns, partially because the movie made from the book is so beautifully done, and partially because I think it has many things to say about humanity in general, but it does it in a fairy- tale setting. If you have ever seen the movie, I highly recommend the book that inspired it.
