madonna.jpgMadonna by Andrew Morton
Review by: DecksDiva

I have always thought personally Andrew Morton was a sneaky, underhanded biographer who got great delight at digging up the dirt on the rich and famous to make money out of.

This is because he was scolded by the UK paparazzi for the way he portrayed (or even betrayed) the memory of Princess Diana so shortly after her death in a biographer that painted her in a less-than-savoury light. I considered this to be bad taste and squirmed when I saw the next dirt-dishing escapade called "Madonna".

I was surprised by what I read. Having scanned the excerpts from "Madonna" by Andrew Morton, that appeared in the UK version of OK! Magazine, I was quite interested to see what else Mr. M had found out about the Goddess Of Cool and what he thought it all meant. I would never have the guts to try and work out someone as complex and enigmatic as Madonna because being the typical Leo she is (and a star to boot), like an onion, she has many layers... try to peel them and you will be made to cry trying to get to the essential core!

It took a lot of patience and dedication on my part to get into the biography as a whole; mainly because Morton is a wordsmith who begins by crafting a history lesson on how the Ciccones got to the US and how two very strong families with striving ideals came together to produce the auspicious Madonna child.

This played the central theme of the book, with Morton making intelligent references to Madonna's past and to that of her family and how this carved the way for the determined diva from Pontiac, Detroit played life like a musical instrument to dance to her tune and for to ultimately achieve what she set out to - to conquer the world.

In summary, Madonna is portrayed as a usual person with an unusual talent, a tragic character with a fervent fire in her heart for growth and self-promotion, and as well-deserved of her worldwide success and adulation as an icon of our lifetime. Check it & you will not be disappointed... it's well addictive!
