Love, Loss, and What I Wore: My Life in Fashion by Ilene Beckerman
Review by: Suzy
Wedding dresses aren't the only garments with powerful memories and associations for most women, however they may feel about fashion. Ilene Beckerman reviews her life in the context of what she wore at the time, starting with her Brownie uniform (1940's) through her mother-of-the-bride dress (1980's).
The book is small and exquisite, a gift in book form. Beckerman's charming line drawings perfectly complement her spare writing, which can be hysterically funny or heartbreakingly poignant. It's also a fascinating insight into what it was like to grow up in New York during those chaotic decades following WWII.
Thoroughly enjoyable and charming in every way.
