webusability.jpgDesigning Web Usability : The Practice of Simplicity by Jakob Nielsen
Review by: Witchy

Printed in 1999, it's still an excellent book, for Newbies and Intermediate web users alike.

In part of Mr. Nielsen's section on Page Design, he talks about the possibility of micro charging (a small fee you'll have to pay) to view a page. (I find this happening now on the web.)

Mr Nielsen also express the opinion about Frames. He says, "NO FRAMES". (I agree with This! :) A trend that I've been seeing more and more of in the past 3 years of being on the web, Mr Nielsen states,

"Simplicity should be the goal of page design. Users are rarely at a site to enjoy the design, instead they focus on the content"

I find this to be so. With myself, I'll go to a place/home I like because I know that their design work, inspires me. But I stay, because of Content. In fact, 98% of the sites I visit, are because of content. Not design.

Mr. Nielsen also talks about page layout with search capabilities, Intranet, Global Audience and Accessibility for Users .

Overall, this book is an excellent book that could help many people wanting to improve their site and learn more of the way the trend of the web is going.
