Irishdawn - I LOVE makeup! I'm addicted to it. I check this section every week looking for new things to try. Hopefully, some of my favorites will work for other redheads. I have dark red-gold hair that looks flame red in sunlight, green eyes, and VERY fair skin, but with almost no freckles. I am a product whore, who puts on mascara to run down to the mailbox. I love to try new makeup and skin care, but the items I'm noting here are the ones that I have either purchased more than once or will buy again.

My skin care routine varies because I've never found any moisturizers that don't feel greasy. I can't stand to feel as though I've smeared my face with bacon grease, but that's what they all feel like. Consequently, I just continually try different brands, maybe one day I'll find the perfect product! The only cleanser/makeup remover I like is Going, Going GONE by Ultima II. This stuff is great, my face feels soft, silky, but above all CLEAN. All the makeup is gone and I rarely need to use a moisturizer after this product.

My favorite foundation so far is by Prescriptives. The color is called "Soft Ecru #3" and it's actually light enough that I don't feel like a fifth grader experimenting with makeup eight shades too dark. I dust Lancome Poudre Majeur in Translucent over that, sometimes I add a dusting of the same powder in Perle, for a little glow. I have bright red-gold eyebrows (even I have to admit that the color is so bright it looks dyed!) and I found an absolutely perfect eyebrow pencil that isn't even an eyebrow pencil. JANE has an eyeliner pencil called Gold Dust that is almost the exact color of my eyebrows. It is the perfect texture and consistency to make my "eyebrows from hell" behave. I also have a scar that cuts through my right eyebrow and I use the pencil to fill in the scar so it doesn't look like I have half an eyebrow , a gap, then the other half of the eyebrow. In a pinch I have used this pencil as an eye liner, shadow, and lip liner, with Carmex over the color on my lips! It's about as versatile as versatile gets, and it's CHEAP!! I buy several at a time, heaven forbid I should ever be without one!

My favorite eye products include two color sets intended for African-American women. A Fashion Fair eye shadow duo in Winterberry/Golden Chestnut. Blended, the shadows are the exact color of my hair. I have never worn this eyeshadow without getting compliments. Another product is Black Radiance Eyeshadow Quartet, called Desert Clay #8801. The compact includes a bronzey-gold color and a cocoa-gold, both great colors. Maybelline has a single color called Silken Taupe that is a wonderful "quick sweep" color that goes on smoothly and stays for hours, even on my oily eyelids! Bath and Body Works have two eyeshadows that really work with my coloring, Fog, a deep, smokey, mossy green (the only green I can wear without looking like I mugged a clown for his makeup case) and Terra, a lovely coppery color. Last but not least, Loreal has a thick eye pencil called Eye Smoker, in a color called Antique Gold, that goes on quickly and smoothly and looks great with green eyes.

I rotate between four blushes, depending on my wardrobe choices. I like Bath and Body Works First Blush Cheek Color in Terra Cotta. It's the "pinkest" of my blushes, but, given my coloring, that's not very darn pink! My favorite blush was actually intended to be an eye shadow. I got the product in Italy, but I believe it's available in the US through Exactitude Beauty. The color is called Peachy Pesca. It is a glowing copper/bronze that is one of the prettiest colors I've ever seen, just in the container. I also use it as eyeshadow, and have rubbed it over the ever present Carmex as lip color in a pinch. Loreal has a convenient product called Quick Stick, a twist-up tube of color that you can take practically anywhere. I like the color Bronze Glow, and often use it for a quick swipe of subtle glow. Great creamy consistency that doesn't feel greasy. I just discovered a new blush at Wal-Mart (so, needless to say, it's an economical product). The line is called Rimmel, and has a lot of pretty colors. I bought a blush called Tawney, that I really like-not to mention, the price including tax was less than $2.50!

I have more lip color, in various containers and consistencies, than I know what to do with, but I do have a few favorites. Just for Redheads has my two all time favorite colors, Ginger Veil, which I'm wearing in the picture, and Micro Clay, a color that is the closest thing to my natural lip color I've ever found. It is perfect when I want the semi-natural look. Ginger Veil is the best red I've ever found for my coloring. I buy them two at a time so I have one in my desk and one at home. Maybelline has my second favorite red, a Moisture Whip color called Sweet Honey. I also like their Super lustrous color, Goldpearl Bronze, if you ever lean toward brassy colors, this is great. Maybelline has a Lip Express pencil called Russett Rage that must taste as good as it looks because my dog has eaten three of the pencils so far! It is a great consistency, creamy but not greasy. Loreal has a couple of good colors in their Rouge Pulp line. Exposed is a pale nude, and Strapless is a fun, funky, corally pink, leaning just enough to the corally side to avoid being too pink. Jane has a golden copper color called Fired Up, and since it costs about $3 including tax, it's a great buy as well as being a great redhead color. I'l love to be able to share a favorite mascara, but I'm still looking for it! I've probably tried a hundred brands over the years, and am still searching for the perfect mascara! If I ever find it, I'll be sure to share!
