Marie-Claire - As all good redheads must, there is nothing I enjoy more than shopping for shoes and makeup. I will very often buy makeup that I have no intention of wearing, just because I can and the darned bottle looked pretty.. *L* (i.e. sparkley green nail polish)
I have long auburn hair that I've had streaked with a carmel-ly colour a few shades lighter than my hair. I (surprisingly enough) tan very easily and am fairly dark for a redhead. I have tons and tons of freckles (I've heard the "can I connect the dots?" pick up line more than once..) which is why I use a very special type of foundation. Too many cream foundations cover up your freckles and end up looking 'cakey' of fake because the rest of you obviously has freckles but your face doesn't. I use a foundation by "marcelle" which is basically made up of water, alcohol and colored talc powder. You apply it with a make-up sponge and when it dries all that's left is a thin layer of coloured powder. It's great! Never cakey or too thick and does a great job at evening out your complexion while letting the freckles show through.
For eyeshadow I usually use a dark brown in the crease of the lid(leaving the front of the lid white) and apply and cinnamon/rust color over the whole lid with a blush brush (to the cheeks too). Then to fade the color a bit I use a shiny (off)white pearl shadow under the brow and at the base of the lid. (Whick I also sprinkle on my cheekbones when going out(see pic))
Lets face it ladies, less is not more.. MORE is more. I like to use a dark brown liquid eyeliner and have it line out almost 1cm past my eye since my eyes are very close together and this makes them look farther apart. If your eyes are close together, the trick with the pearl eyeshadow is to start it right at the corner of your eye(closest to your nose) as the light color at the base makes them look farther apart.
I can pull-off wearing dark brown liner and mascara since my complexion is so dark.
If you do use eyeliner to extend the line out past your eye, you should never make it longer than the length of your lashes (for day wear anyway..)
As for lipstick, I usually stick to light cinnamon-pink colours.. though have never found the perfect colour and usually blend two together. Then for evenings, top it with a flavoured gloss and off you go.
And voila, though it sounds like alot of makeup, you get a very clean look. :)
