Rusty - Personally my best bit of advice is simply try everything you can. Experiment with your friends' stuff, sisters, cousins, whoever. Get as many free samples from magazines etc as you can, knowledge is power!
I cleanse with Freeman's Beautiful Skin Blueberry and Lavender Extra Nourishing Gacial Gel Gleanser daily. I also use their Avocado and Oatmeal mask weekly.
The only foundation I've found that really suited me is Estee Lauder Lucidity in Pale Ivory (SPF 8) which is liquid and for normal to dry skin.
Lips: Invest in a good brush. All colours can be utilised if you know how to blend! That said, any bright pinks are most certainly (for me anyway) a definite no no. They make me look really washed out. Pale pinks are great, as long as they aren't too red... L'oreal Rouge Pulp in Goddess and Wink are great if you're going for a subtle, innocent kind of look, as are the pink and silver from the Body Shops Ice Queen lips collection. If you want more dramatic lips try L'Oreal Rouge Pulp in Craving (which is a rich bronze sort of colour). And always add a little more colour to the centre of your bottom lip, it gives the impression of fuller, poutier lips.
Eyes: I love wearing colour around my eyes. The dramatic effect of a shadow combined with mascara are marvellous. My favourite mascara's are Maybelline Full 'n' Soft in Very Black (Both waterproof, and not, since waterproof mascara everyday dries your lashes, so only when it's needed) and Maybelline Wonder Curl mascara in Brownish black. My favourite Eye liner, when I use it, is Maybelline Expert Eyes in Brownish black (to match the mascara). Because of the shade of my skin black eyeliner always made me look very gothic, which simply wasn't me :) Eye shadow is great to experiment with. I love blending colours. Great buys are Maybelline (again!) Expert eyes eyeshadow four packs. My personal favourite is Seashore frosts, four different colours for all your moods, including a pink. Some may be a little 'scared' of the pink. The secret is a brush, and to use just the slightest amount to give just a hint of colour. Also Revlon Street Wear in Groovy Baby! a shimmery golden colour which a s well as being worn as a shadow can be applied in the manner of a liner beneath the lower lashes, as can Maybelline Cool Effect, avaliable in a variety of colours, my favourite being Cool Blue.
