Emkay - Skin is like an onion, it has many layers, all translucent with a little color. When we blush, the blood comes to the surface. The best makeup is the kind that lets light into the skin while enhancing color or covering imperfection. It can be expensive though.
Cleaning
In order to get a smooth application, you have to have smooth skin. I'm 18, so I have acne. I found out that if I exfoliate, it gets much better. Instead of using pummice or an expensive scrub, try adding sugar to honey until it has a grainy texture. Put your hair back or cover it with a towel. It works best if you just had a hot shower. Scrub your face with the mixture; it will feel rough. To get it off, wash with hot water, under the shower works best. Your acne will get worse for a couple days, as the developing acne will come to the surface. But exfoliating prevents pores from getting clogged, and in about four days, your skin will be clearer than it was before. Do this no more than twice a week, as it may leave skin raw. Afterward and between scrubs, wash with an oil free cleanser, like Cetaphil. It is found in almost any drugstore. It is handy because it does not require water, it gets rid of oil and leaves skin soft. I find antibacterial soaps don't work well for me.
Apple Oatmeal Mask
To get rid of oil try putting a mixture of peeled apple and oatmeal in a blender. Don't mix more than you'll use. Blend to a paste and rub on your face, espically the oily parts. Wipe off after a bit and wash with Cetaphil.
Makeup
I use Cover Girl Fresh Look foundation in Ivory. I always wash first and put on a _very_ small amount of lotion on my face. On my lips I use a little beeswax lip balm, then blot. If I want to use mascara, I use a light brown one. Revlon now makes an eyeshadow set called Illuminance. I find the pink one is most useful. I use only a little on the outsides of my eyelids. It is a little greasy, but is pretty and subtle and stays for a long time.
